The Student

I wish

I didn’t have to go

to school, to

study.

But

my mom says I need to

so I can have a

future.

Today

I tore my jeans;

I think I’ll just throw them out;

I can always buy

another.

I don’t understand

Why

do people say I’m lucky?

I do nothing

But assignments and homework.

I’m never free.

The Worker

i wish

i had the opportunity

to read, to

write

but

my mama, she needs me

i am her only

future

today

i grip the sewing needle tight

stitch after stitch

 i have to fix

another

i do not understand

why

do people say they are unlucky?

i do nothing

but sew and stitch and fix

i am never free
